What We Do
The Handmaids of Mary have many roles within the congregation and in the world. Use the menu above to read more about our programs.
Infirmarian: Sr. Chala Marie, FHM
"I have been a Handmaid of Mary for many years and serve in several ministries. As congregation infirmarian, I have the honor and privilege to minister to our infirm Sisters. I am also the director of Religious Education at All Saints Church, and in my role as a catechist, I have the grace-filled opportunity to help prepare youth for the sacrament of Confirmation."
Administrator:
Sister Maria Goretti Mannix, FHM
"I have been a member of the Handmaids of Mary for 59 years. Currently I serve as the Assistant Congregation Minister. I take the place of the Congregation Minister when she is absent from the Motherhouse or impeded in any way.
"I also serve as the Formation Director and am responsible for the Candidate (Postulant), Novice, Temporary Professed, and Transfer Candidates. I meet with each of the above on a regular basis, using our documents, Constitution Directory, Vows, and Franciscan areas of study to guide them in their formation."
Administrator:
Sister Vincent Marie Wilson, FHM
"I received my calling from God to work and serve others as a Franciscan Handmaid of Mary. Some of the Ministries I am involved in are: St. Edward Food Pantry, Vocations, altar bread distribution, FHM Associates and the recently closed Camp St. Edward.
"On behalf of the Sisters, I welcome you to come and see what our Sisters do to help those in need, both in the United States and beyond."
Cook and Teacher: Sr. Mary Francisco, FHM
"I have been a Handmaid of Mary for 57 years. Cooking and teaching are my specialties. I have been teaching at Mount Carmel-Holy Rosary for 39 years. Using both talents have brought me much joy in the service of God."
Decorating: Sr. Catherine Eugene, FHM
"A native of Staten Island, I have been a Franciscan Handmaid of Mary for 31 years. Some of my favorite things to do are decorating, and especially making things and places beautiful for special occasions. I reside at the Motherhouse and assist with garden parties and bazaars, and receive deliveries of food. Walking around the neighborhood and witnessing to our ministry brings me joy."
